ClientTracker ICD-10 Information Page
ICD-10 Update for 2017 - This is a required update for all practices that use ICD-10 diagnosis codes! It goes into effect on October 1, 2016.
Quick "Official" Facts about the 2017 ICD-10 Update
- The Center for Medicare Services (CMS) is responsible for this update. Click here for technical info.
- Over 3,000 codes have been added, deleted, or changed. CMS is expected to update the codes every year.
- The changes are mostly in codes that not likely be used by an acupuncture office... but some common codes (such as Carpal Tunnel and Motor Vehicle Accident codes) have been changed.
- Most impactful is that the "grace period" for the 2016 codes is now over. Insurance companies and other payers will be allowed to deny claims based on "specificity" (i.e. using the wrong ICD-10 code).
ClientTracker, New Codes and You
- Use the existing (2016) codes in your ClientTracker for Dates of Service through September 30, 2016. Use only the new codes (2017) for all Dates of Service beginning October 1, 2016 or later.
- All current ClientTracker subscribers have access to an update that makes the changes very simple... just click one button that will appear on your Diagnosis Code List on October 1, or do it later when you need the new codes.
- The ClientTracker update analyzes your existing list, makes any changes, saves the old information, and shows you what has changed... in just a few minutes!
- This timely and convenient update is an excellent reason to keep your ClientTracker subscription current!
- ClientTracker support covers the functions of your Diagnosis Code List and how to update it from the Code Library. Our support does not cover "what code to use and when."

- Acupuncture ICD-10 Codes - We have compiled a comprehensive list from several different public sources, with many preassigned categories, and all of them now have a place for your own categories and notes.
- Code Converter - ICD-9 to ICD-10, and vice-versa - pick the ICD-9 code you are familiar with, and a list of equivalent ICD-10 codes displays for easy selection.
- Anatomical Picker - An graphic chart makes finding codes by body part as simple as clicking on the lower back!
- Code Picker - Search by codes: ICD-9 or 1CD-10; by any word in the description; or by category - the system's and yours.
- Code Combos - Create combinations of codes that you may use frequently together.
- Multi-Pick Code(s) - Add one or multiple codes at one time to a SOAP Note, 1500 form or Superbill.
- Bonus - For existing patients' codes, ClientTracker will suggest the equivalent ICD-10(s), using its existing popular feature whereby ICD-9 codes copy forward from previous SOAP Notes, 1500 forms, and Superbills.
Q: What is ICD-10?
A: In short, these are the diagnosis codes scheduled to replace the ICD-9 codes you use now. As of October 1, 2015, anyone who is subject to HIPAA laws must use only the new ICD-10 codes for all patient documentation, including SOAP Notes, 1500 claims, Superbills, and the like. Q: How do the new ICD-10 codes get into my ClientTracker?
A: The automatic ICD-10 upgrade will be available well before the deadline, so you can get familiar with the new codes and how they work.

Q: When will I use the new ICD-10 codes? A: The existing ICD-9 codes must be used for all dates-of-service up through September 30, 2015. Starting October 1, 2015 all dates-of-service must use the new ICD-10 codes. Q: What else do I need to know? A: The new ICD-10 codes are a completely different system, and most will require new choices, and possibly sub-codes that provide more specificity. There are "codes within codes" that require attention to detail. SOAP notes become very important, as they must justify the specificity of the diagnosis codes used. As always, the health care provider is responsible for selecting the proper codes - any codes isolated by a code conversion system are suggested only. |
Q: What makes ClientTracker's CodeTracker system different than all the other ones out there?
A: Many "code pickers" are available on the Internet; none will actually put the code into ClientTracker. To use them, you will have to find a code, copy it, and add it to your master list of Diagnosis Codes in ClientTracker, before it can be used on a SOAP, 1500 form or Superbill. As we said above, doing this in an older version of ClientTracker won't display properly. Typing in a description of the code and other useful info takes even longer. ClientTracker's built-in CodeTracker system will make it easy to select any code(s) you need.
